10 Self Defense Tips For Women

Everyone should take 5 minutes to read this. It may save your life or a loved one’s life. In daylight hours, refresh yourself of these things to do in an emergency situation… This is for you, and for you to share with your wife, your children, & everyone you know. After reading these 10 crucial tips, forward them to someone you care about. It never hurts to be careful in this crazy world we live in.

1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do :The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do!

2. Learned this from a tourist guide. If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse,
DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you… Chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you, and he will go for the wallet/purse.
RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!

3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy.. The driver won’t see you, but everybody else will. This has saved lives.

4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. DON’T DO THIS!) The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR , LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE..

5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:
A.) Be aware:look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor ,
and in the back seat. B.) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars. C.) Look at the car parked on the driver’s side of your vehicle, and the passenger side.. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)

6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot. This is especially true at NIGHT!)

7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN!
The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; and even then,
it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN, Preferably in a zig -zag pattern!

8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked ‘for help’ into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.

9. Another Safety Point: Someone just told me that her friend heard a crying baby on her porch the night before last, and she called the police because it was late and she thought it was weird.. The police told her ‘Whatever you do, DO NOT open the door..’ The lady then said that it sounded like the baby had crawled near a window, and she was worried that it would crawl to the street and get run over. The policeman said, ‘We already have a unit on the way, whatever you do, DO NOT open the door.’ He told her that they think a serial killer has a baby’s cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby.. He said they have not verified it, but have had several calls by women saying that they hear baby’s cries outside their doors when they’re home alone at night.

10. Water scam! If you wake up in the middle of the night to hear all your taps outside running or what you think is a burst pipe, DO NOT GO OUT TO INVESTIGATE! These people turn on all your outside taps full blast so that you will go out to investigate and then attack. Call a neighbor, friend or loved one instead.

10 Self-Defense Tips Every Real Estate Agent Should Know (And Calling 911 Isn’t One Of Them.)

1. Unless you have sought out formal self-defense training you will have no way of knowing how to defend yourself. Realizing that you lack in personal safety knowledge is a critical first step.

2. Understanding what you look like to a criminal is paramount. Real estate agents are the ultimate soft target (easy opportunity). You can be called by anyone, at any time and requested to meet in person, generally alone and in an empty property. They know what you look like already and thanks to social media they can quickly find out a great deal about you in advance. Do you look wealthy, weak or wear a lot of jewelry? This gives a criminal a chance to profile you for added value.

3. Every real estate agent should avoid thinking they will call 911 or download a safety app on their smart phone. No matter what you do, you will have to physically deal with an attacker for 5 to 15 minutes while the police are dispatched. This is assuming you have accomplished the incredibly difficult task of call 911 under the stress of a life threatening attack. We have tested the action of calling 911 under stress and it takes an average of 50 feet to get the phone out and to hit three buttons.

4. Real Estate agents who work alone and meet strangers everyday should employ smoke and mirrors with potential clients you feel uneasy about. What does that mean? Let’s say you are called to a property, it’s late in the evening, you’re alone and it’s empty. Let the prospect know when you and “your partner” will arrive. Perception is reality and if this was a criminal you’ve just put them on notice that you’re not alone. In a criminals world this changes everything. Clearly the best option is to actually travel with a partner.

5. Make it a good practice to tell everyone that your boss or partner will be meeting you here any minute if you are unfortunately unable to travel with a partner. Whether it’s true or not it creates a valuable safety hurdle for you.

6. Always insist that your client walks in first, you should also arrive early to unlock the door. Always step aside and allow the client to go in first. Many people are attacked near doors in buildings and by cars because criminals know you will be pre-occupied with the lock. You will be fumbling with your keys and your head will be down, it gets even worse if you’re on the phone. If you walk in front of someone it’s easy for your would-be assailant to lock the door and proceed with the attack. This is common in active shooter situations, the gun man will often lock the door behind them before they start.

7. Ask your client to stand at the back of their own vehicle and with your smart phone take a picture of the client including their vehicle and license plate in the photo. Let them know its policy that you do this and that you must to send it to your boss/office so they know where you are at and who you are with. When sending the photo to your trusted contact be sure to keep your client in sight as to not distract yourself in the process. By taking this picture and sending it off you have told this person that everyone will without a doubt, know who you are with. If it’s a criminal with bad intention it almost guarantees that they will not get away with what they planned to do. They can find another victim that gives them a chance of getting away with it, you’re not the one. It is advised to alert the client of this policy prior to arrival at the property and mention the latest attack involving real estate agents. It’s also important to remember, good people will not mind you doing this as they have no premeditated intent (plan).

8. Every real-estate agent should be told that these self-defense myths DO NOT work well and that relying on them to keep you safe is extremely dangerous:

*Putting your keys between your fingers to fend of an attacker

*Carrying pepper spray for self-defense

*Kicking an attacker in the groin

*Carrying a gun or having a concealed weapons- permit

*Thinking moves you see in cage fights will work in real life

* Having 911 on speed dial

9. Every Real estate agent should learn anti-abduction techniques. The possibility of kid napping using the agents’ vehicle is not only viable but likely. Your car arrives at the location stocked full of useful property a criminal may need including transportation, credit cards and/or cash. If the criminal plans on transporting you to a different location our life saving anti-abduction techniques are second to none.

10. Finally, if you value you what you do and your own personal safety, seek out training immediately! We have already established that real estate agents are soft targets with little to no training in self-defense so why not get started as soon as possible. We are paying insurance on material items that depreciate every minute like a car, phone or an appliance so why not insure the most valuable asset. You are the most important person in the world, so get started.

Clearly there will be times where everything is obviously safe, in fact that will be most of the time, however each tip or piece of advice is just another tool for real estate agents . Always keep in mind that there are individuals who prey on others for a living , it’s all they know and what they constantly think about . It’s better to be insured and never have to use it than it is to need it and not have it. By that time it’s too late.

Active Shooter Survival….

FND8EJ8EErXAL2(This text is taken from a post by Master Del Rounds, Criminology professor and owner of Edinboro Family Martial Arts Center)

Let’s re-define the phrase “active shooter” to the more accurate phrase “active killer” (“AK”) because that is what they are. Simple enough.

Now, here is what to do if you aren’t armed:

1.) Understand the psychology of an Active Killer. In a nutshell (no pun intended), the AK wants to kill as many people as possible. They want their “number” (of murdered) to be larger than anyone else. They don’t want hostages so negotiating is futile and will only get one killed. Finally, AK’s want easy targets and they are cowards as most end their own lives once confronted by someone with a firearm or some type of upper hand.

2.) Understand your own psychology. Events can’t be predicted, but always be on alert. If something weird happens your brain will try to make sense of it, but that delay in reacting can be deadly. So…

3.) Train for active killer situations. Take any and all courses you can. Prep over and over in your mind what you can do. How would you best evacuate? Where will you take cover if you can’t evacuate? What will you do if you actually end up face-to-face with the AK? Take self-defense classes specific to AK situations. Forget Karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and MMA. These are great for sport, but it takes many years to get skilled enough in any of these forms of Martial Arts (or any martial art), and you need AK strategy more than anything else. (Except a gun that you know how to use.)

4.) Don’t Panic. So your brain has caught up to the situation and you’re still alive. You have a great chance of surviving this ordeal if you don’t panic and if you play the odds. (Sorry, unless you’re armed and know how to use the gun you’re carrying, the best advice i can give is “play the odds”*.)

5.) Play the odds. Your reaction has to be the best possible given the situation. We know, from thousands of survivors, what works.

6.) Know the following facts. Concealment (hiding) can work. Cover (hiding behind something that stops bullets) works. Fleeing, if safer than hiding, can work. Last ditch effort of aggressively attacking the AK works. So in more practical terms: Flee if you can. Hide in a locked room if you can’t flee. Take cover in the locked room, but plan an attack strategy while hiding. Be prepared to attack and kill the AK if they get into the room. (We know most go to unlocked rooms and continue the killing spree.) Continue hiding until the police find you.

Other Things to Remember: If you are able to flee make sure to hold your hands up so you don’t get shot. If you have a gun make sure you aren’t holding it when first responders arrive or they may mistake you for the killer and they will shot you. Don’t be alarmed if first responders seem rude to those who need first aid or more serious medical treatment; their primary concern is neutralizing the target.

*There have been so many AK’s over the past 20 years in the United States alone, that we have very accurate data on what happens during an active killer situation. Based on that data we are able to now give very good advice in how to survive and in how to die. Don’t die.

Follow the advice and play the odds. Unless you have a gun (and really know how to use it and are really willing to use it) all you have are the odds.

The 1 Thing You Need……

Let’s pretend that you’re home alone, it’s late at night, and you can’t sleep so you decide to watch TV.

You start flipping through channels and you see one infomercial after another. On and on it goes, until finally you can guess what the host or narrator is going to say before they say it:

“….But wait, there’s more….”

“Operators standing by!”

“Not available in stores.”

“Money back guaranteed!”

But my favorite part has to be the visual of someone throwing out an entire drawer of items and then replacing the contents with the single item that they’re selling. I absolutely love that part. It’s a really powerful visual. So it got me thinking. What is the one thing that someone would need in order to defend themselves? Just one thing. What would it be?

So I started to go through everything that I could think of. A gun? Maybe a knife? How about a bat? Or how about just using my car keys? They’re always on me and relatively accessible at any given time.

Well, I’m not a big fan of weapons. Not that I think they aren’t necessary, practical or efficient, I’m just not a guy who likes to rely on items.

So how about technique? I love good technique. I love watching someone perform good technique. I love learning good technique, and there’s a strong rumour going around stating that I’m actually starting to get pretty good at them.

Great!! I found the answer!! The one thing that anyone needs to defend themselves is good technique!!

Oh, wait a second………..WHICH technique?? Arm bar? Shoulder lock? Wrist lock? Yep. Wrist lock. that’s it. That was easy. I love wrist locks. They are my third favorite thing in the world. So the one technique that everyone needs to know in order to defend themselves is a wrist lock.

Well………..what if I’m attacked from behind? What if my hands are full? What if I’m sitting in a car?

Oh, this was starting to get way too complicated. No matter how hard I tried I couldn’t find that one technique or weapon that I could use universally. There was always some legitimate reason or situation that whatever I chose wouldn’t work.

So I thought about it some more, and more, and yet even more. And I couldn’t figure it out. There HAD to be something. But what??

It’s a riddle. No, it’s a mystery. No, no, it’s an enigma. OMG, it’s a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma!! It was a good thing that I don’t have any hair as I would have ripped all of it out.

Finally defeated, I decided that the only thing left to do is to allow myself an honorable death. This etymology (yes, that is actually a word. Google it) was my undoing.

So during my preparation for Hari Kari I asked myself why I was willing to allow this obsession to go so far. Why???

And then, the skies opened, the clouds parted, and a blinding light shone down upon me and then I heard Morgan Freeman’s voice. “You have found the answer my son.”

Willingness.

If you want to be able to properly defend yourself you only need one thing. That is the willingness to do so.

Are you willing to inflict enough pain and/or punishment on another human being or animal to be able to keep yourself or a loved one (or even a stranger if need be) safe?

If you are, then all that’s left is an education in how or what to do.

If you’re not, then you might just find out if God also looks like Morgan Freeman.

The 265 Pound Bad Ass Biker

You might be wondering whether self-defense and martial arts techniques will really work against a bigger, stronger attacker.

A lot of what people learn in karate, kung fu, mixed martial arts, boxing, etc. would absolutely fail in a real street fight against someone twice your size.

It’s just the God’s honest truth.

But even a bad ass 265 lb barroom brawler has his weak points. It isn’t theory – it is plain science… In fact, the street fighting technique you’re about to read has been used to topple one of the biggest giants of the old school UFC “bloodsport” days.

“Tank” Abbot was the meanest looking barroom brawler biker dude you’d ever hate to be on the wrong side of.

About 265 lbs of muscle and fat mixed together in a nasty soup of “I don’t give a sh#t!”. In bars, he would get drunk and crush skulls just for the fun of it.

Except that Tank had one weak area that smaller attackers used to EASILY defeat him no matter how much he tried to defend Himself.

Here’s how it works…

The fleshy part of the outside of your upper leg (midway on your upper, outer thigh) is filled with a bunch of unprotected nerves.

Knowing this, a few of Tank’s smaller opponents simply took their shin and drove it sideways right into this soft, fleshy explosion of nerves.

His size actually worked against him as there was no way for him to move fast enough to defend against this sneak attack.

The effects were immediate… and devastating!

Tank’s leg instantly weakened and you could see the defeat in his once-vicious eyes. He hobbled and gave up, realizing he had no more “structure” to put his massive frame to use.

He was powerless!

THIS is how we need to think when facing a bigger, stronger attacker. Don’t think “punch” like most people do – it will just bounce off of the giant thug in front of you and piss him off.

Instead, a dirty “low blow” where you drive your shin through the outside part of your attacker’s thigh will send him to the ground like a bag of dirt.

(Think of it like you’re literally chopping off both his legs with your shin.)

Look, it’s not some “pretty” move like a lot of those martial arts will tell you to do.

And that’s the point…

When it comes to defending yourself against someone who is much bigger and stronger than you, you can’t use fancy martial arts techniques.

The pretty stuff works in tournaments, where there are judges and no desire to actually damage your opponent.

You need to understand that the common street criminal, loudmouth bully, and predator looking to target you isn’t going to follow any “rules”. He’s going to fight dirty.

THAT is what “real fighting” looks like on the street.
